Hydrotreating Catalyst

Hydrotreating, also know as Hydrodesulfurization (HDS) which is a catalytic chemical process widely used to remove sulfur (S) from natural gas and the refined petroleum products, such as gasoline or petrol, jet fuel, kerosene, diesel fuel, and fuel oils by using the hydrotreating catalyst. The purpose of removing the sulfur, and creating products such as ultra-low-sulfur diesel, is to reduce the sulfur dioxide (SO2) emissions that result from using those fuels in automotive vehicles, aircraft, railroad locomotives, ships, gas or oil burning power plants, residential and industrial furnaces, and other forms of fuel combustion. Another important reason for removing sulfur from the naphtha streams within a petroleum refinery is that sulfur, even in extremely low concentrations, poisons the noble metal catalysts (platinum and rhenium) in the catalytic reforming units that are subsequently used to upgrade the octane rating of the naphtha streams.

The hydrotreating can be performed at a certain temperature and pressure in the presence of a catalyst and hydrogen. In this process sulfur, nitrogen, and oxygen non-hydrocarbon compounds can be converted through hydrogenolysis into hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and water which are easily to be removed. The unsaturated olefins and condensed ring aromatics can be converted into saturated hydrocarbons.

An HDS unit in the petroleum refining industry is also called hydrotreater. The hydrotreating catalyst are normally loaded and combined with other grading materials.Today, more and more varieties of oil products needed to be produced. Oil products of better and better quality are needed and the requirements for the products are more complicated. The hydrotreating is the most effective and flexible process which can satisfy the demand.

SINOCATA offers hydrotreating catalyst to produce low sulfur & ultra low sulfur Naphtha, Gasoline, Diesel, Kerosene to meet strict product specification and low emission requirements.
